I repeat the aforementioned zen saying of unknown origin to myself almost daily and share it more than I’d like to admit. The oft repeated saying of unknown zen philosophy origins is one of the most boring things about me, but it provides me with almost unlimited motivation.
My daily inner dialogue usually goes something like this…
Wanna throw those PJs on the floor and skip making the bed? No! The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.
Shall I give up on this two minute plank superset with 60 straight seconds of burpees? No! The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.
Don’t want to stay up to meet that deadline? No! The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.
Spammers also rely on this zen philosophy. And amazingly enough, it’s the answer to why spam is so obviously spammy.
Those letters from Nigerian Princes and failed car insurance payment warnings are intentionally bad because they want to lure in people who aren’t disciplined [or, er, insert whatever word you want here] enough to see that their pleas for money and/or personal information is a scam.
In other words, they figure the way you vet phone calls, text messages, or emails is precisely on par with how well you’ll defend yourself.
The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.
So stay safe out there, my friends. You’re worth it.
